Tired of all the hard work you have put throughout the year? Looking for a place to refresh and enjoy yourself? Well you should visit Durban, it is located at the east coast of South Africa. Since South Africa as a whole has a wide variety of cultures, Durban has Zulus, whites and mostly Indians. Nature really wires this place, it is always warm throughout the year. The day temperature hardly ever falls below 18ºC making it the ideal destination for any type of holiday.


Durban is found to have the best beaches in South Africa unlike that of the west coast where you are strained to visit only during summer, because of the cold temperatures. The warm ocean current that occurs on the east coast called warm Mozambique Ocean Current keeps the water balmy, creating humid conditions by the beaches throughout the year.

Every year Durban receives over one million tourists, I have to say it is the fastest growing city in South Africa. Today, around 650 000 people live in Durban. Of course when we visit a place the first common question we ask ourselves is that ‘is the place safe?’ well I have been hearing stories about how dangerous Durban is, the statistical analysis shows crime rates fluctuating from 2009 but has decreased from 2016 to now,2018. Which basically means Durban is becoming a safer city, but what caused the change?

#1.  At first Durban was called ‘Rio de Natal’ by Vasco da Gama during his visit, and the word ‘Natal’ in Portuguese means Christmas.

#2. The Gateway Shopping Centre has more than 350 stores, 18 movie theatres, 70 restaurants, a theme park, an indoor climbing rock and even a 4000 square meter skate park making it the biggest shopping centre in Africa.

#3. Ushaka Marine World, the fifth (5) largest aquarium in the world, has 32 tanks, several restaurants, seal stadium and a dolphin.

#4. CNN has rated Durban as “The Coolest City in South Africa”

#5. It is estimated that Durban might have population of about 3,8 million people.

The place offers variety of services without tearing your pocket as you might think, like the beautiful lodges they have, with reasonable prices. I can assure you that your stay at Durban will change your life for better.

The bunny chow 
To make any Durban experience complete, you have to dig into this legendary street food. There are many stories about the origin of buuny chow, but what we know is that it first appeared during the Apartheid regime in KwaZulu-Natal. The Durban bunny chow is the best of all time. The secret to a great bunny is amazing curry, with fresh and fluffy bread, just imagine, the meal served hot with a carrot salad and the signatures finishing touch with gravy dripping down the sides of the bread. And I tried to make this bunny chow a hundred times but it keeps lacking that delightfulness, but giving up is not an option for me.

This will absolutely make a day for any surf lover. For those who are not professional surfers but would love to try it out, do not worry folks, there are classes that will make you a great surfer and that will create terrific experience.

The place to see Durban’s Harbour, the busiest port in Africa, in action. You will get a glimpse of luxury yachts, racing boats, trawlers and hulking tankers as they go by.

 The best thing about Durban is that summer or winter, it is always a great idea to kick off your slops and leap into that beautiful warm sea. The bay also offers good surf conditions and you can play volleyball or any other favourable interesting sports by the beach. A way to refresh your mind is to take a walk during sunset, alone feeling the moist coastal air.
